The Smith They Dared Not Let In to Hell

If there is one tale that might motivate an attempt at uniting Nordic mythology with Nordic folklore, then “The Smith They Dared Not Let In to Hell” is it. It is tempting to associate the smith, wielding his hammer, with the hammer-wielding Norse god Thor. I am not so easily swayed; but if you can find a reference to pear trees in the Eddas, or to the pounding of an enemy in a wire pouch, I would be interested to hear about it.
